APEX Academy’s Core Mission
APEX Academy’s core mission is to foster a love of learning in students pursuing their dream of becoming highly skilled pet groomers. Our founder, Connie Buchanan, B.Ed., carefully handpicked a team of qualified instructors to bring real-life grooming expertise directly into the classroom. Each instructor contributes practical insight, sharing techniques and knowledge gained through years of hands-on experience in the grooming industry.
As a lifelong educator and successful grooming business owner, Connie is dedicated to elevating the quality and professionalism of grooming services through comprehensive education. With her leadership, the academy remains firmly committed to raising industry standards and blending essential technical grooming skills with practical business know-how. The goal is to produce a new generation of confident, capable pet groomers who are ready to thrive in any setting.
Our courses, conducted at our state-of-the-art facility, are designed to be highly interactive. Students benefit from immersive, hands-on training sessions and live demonstrations led by experienced grooming professionals, all focused on enhancing learning outcomes and building confidence through direct application.
Our 4,000-Square-Foot Facility
APEX Academy’s 4,000-square-foot facility is designed to provide real-life pet grooming training. Students enjoy practical classes at 20 dog grooming stations equipped with clipper-vac systems and a dedicated tub room.
We ensure pets are safe and comfortable with a separate cat grooming area equipped with Catty Shak Vacs, cat-specific tubs, and tables. A comfortable classroom equipped with a projector provides the backdrop for our theory courses, offering visual learning aids for an enhanced experience. Grooming tables provide hands-on, real-world training in a professional environment, ensuring students are exposed to the challenges, solutions, and pleasures of pet grooming.

The pet grooming industry is multi-faceted, with many career opportunities. As a result, we’ve designed our facility to reflect multiple facets of learning under one roof. A growing trend in pet grooming is convenience, increasing the demand for innovative solutions such as mobile grooming salons.

Meet Your Pet Grooming Instructors
Our team of pet grooming course instructors are passionate animal grooming trainers mentoring students through every stage of learning. They bring their unique experiences in the field to the classroom, including expertise in canine and feline grooming, business management, and teaching.
Jenna – Manager and Instructor
Jenna holds a dual role as a pet grooming course instructor and manager of APEX Academy, Zoom Zoom Groom, and PreZoomably Cats. Since 2010, she has gained extensive experience with Zoom Zoom Groom, continuing to hone her skills as an exceptional pet groomer.
While she is partial to curly-coated breed grooming techniques, her management experience is the driving force behind her business and managerial courses, which she teaches with great passion and enthusiasm. Working alongside Cole, they create a powerhouse of knowledge, teaching both practical grooming and profitable salon management.
Nicole – Feline Groomer Program Instructor
Nicole is our resident “crazy cat lady” and certified feline expert, holding Feline Master Groomer and Canine Pet Stylist certifications, as well as her highly respected National Cat Groomers Institute Instructor certification. Nicole is an enthusiastic mentor supporting students in the Feline Groomer Program.
She shares her passion for cat grooming, teaching safe handling, demonstrating efficient techniques, and promoting the exciting prospects of the profitable feline grooming niche. Nicole is one of the few National Cat Groomers Institute certifiers in Canada.
